How It Works

Membership

  • Any woman may become a member – Douglas County resident or not!
  • A member commits to one year – four quarterly meetings.
  • A member commits to donating $100 at each meeting to the chosen nonprofit.
  • Please register online.
  • Registration Forms will also be available at the meeting.

Nominating a Nonprofit

  • Any member may submit a nonprofit for consideration.
  • All nonprofits will be vetted by the Leadership Team
  • After receiving the nomination form, the nonprofit will be vetted by the Steering Committee.
  • The nonprofit must be a 501(c)(3), have no political affiliation, and the donation must benefit Douglas County residents, animals or land.
  • While religious institutions are not eligible for consideration, if a nonprofit rooted in religious or spiritual values supports anyone in need without proselytizing or requiring recipients to engage in religious activities, they may be considered eligible, pending review by the leadership team.

Choosing the 3 Nonprofits to Be Presented

  • At the end of each meeting, members who wish to be considered as a presenter at the next meeting will put their names into a hat.
  • Three names will be selected at random, and each lady will decide which nonprofit they will present at the upcoming meeting. Guidelines for presentations will be given to each presenter.  (They are also available by clicking here.)

Voting and Wrap Up

  • Each member votes for one of the 3 nonprofit organizations presented that evening.
  • The nonprofit with the most votes receives the donations.
  • Members write checks directly to the nonprofit before the meeting ends, or, in many cases, make their donation online through the nonprofit’s website.
  • Members who were unable to attend the meeting are notified of the selected nonprofit and given instructions on how to send their donation.  
  • At the following quarterly meeting, representatives from the prior meeting’s funded organization will give a short presentation about how the donation has or will be spent and how that will impact their clients and organization.
  • Organizations cannot be nominated for two years after receiving funding.

Group Guidelines

The chapter is managed by volunteers with no administrative fees.

The chapter is simply a “pass through” for the collective donation; we are a “giving circle.”

The Steering Committee vets nonprofit organizations to ensure they fulfill the requirements of benefiting Douglas County residents.
